In the future MasterCard is open to the idea of using national digital currencies issued by the central bank, according to Mastercard co-president.
- MasterCard filed a patent for immediate payments with blockchain technology in November last year (a spokesperson notes that there are even more than 30 patents)
- Currently, a pilot project in Japan and Singapore is being run by Mastercard, which would allow BTC holders to pay for a MasterCard. The program includes both KYC and AML components
Senior MasterCard CEO Sarker added that MasterCard is offering pilot systems for contactless payment system in Singapore and Australia.
